Is it worth it to get a gps system while driving in Costa Rica?
We are looking into obtaining a lease of GPS with our rental car. Do you it is necessary
GPS may be "somewhat" accurate positioning, but not in the direction if you know what I mean. You should be nice if you travel on main roads. Driving in CR is an experience in itself. Due to the evolution of endless roads, narrow streets and artificial conditions (such as changing road signs), it is not uncommon for the GPS to tell you to turn right, and the next thing you know you're the way whose position in contradiction to a one way street. Or he tells you you're on a road / track, where in fact you're standing in the middle of a stream. Road conditions change what seems like every day, especially when it rains. The recent earthquake made many detours that are and are not scheduled in GPS. And there are many country roads are a must to take to get to a point A to B, which are not programmed into the GPS. Stay on main roads and you should have no problem and yes it's worth it because it gives you a sense of security, and tells you where you are, if you lose.
